02 July 2004 - 21:44 My life has never been better. There is a bowl on the dining table that is always full of fruit. Fresh garden salads accompany my meals. My subtropical days are accented by swims in the pool (and sometimes the Gulf). I unicycle alongside the Bay as the sun sets. I read all of the iGenetics text and am now reviewing. But the best thing about my life is that I live with Wheel and Platypus, and every day I wake up grateful that I have another day to spend with them. The arithmetically inclined amongst my audience will notice that I have more than the typical one (1) lifemate listed above. Yes, it is so. A year ago I noticed that my best friend and confidante of many years had ... even more loveliness than I had ever seen in him before. That the shared understanding we had in all things went deeper and farther the more we cared to explore it. It took a year for the three of us to decide exactly what to do – I avoided saying too much about my life this past year because I didn't understand it yet, and I don't trust the world to know things about me that I don't. But now I do know my life, as much as one ever does. We are all moving to Portland, OR at the end of the summer. Platypus has two years of college left. Sometimes I'm rather shocked about putting off gradschool so long, but I have never actually doubted that it is the right thing to do. You see, Platypus makes me ... better. Better at everything. He is as ambitious as I am, or more, and reminds me ... we grasp the same things. He learns quickly, and it is a joy to watch. He is always a joy to watch – there is something elven about his face, and something compelling about the breadth of his shoulders and the curve of his back. I bike faster when we're together, he holds my hand until I can unicycle on my own, he holds his breath for three and a half minutes under water. He makes ice cream and apple bread and brings me picnic lunches at work. We go to the gym every day, and after I shower he plaits my hair in French braids. I learned genetics for him and origami and web design from him. We work together on projects and ... finish the projects. He writes tight, beautiful PHP and Perl with clever comments. We play one-on-one Unreal Tournament in the Fractal Reactor and I think anyone would be entertained by our range of technique; those games are nearly always close. We make beautiful music together (he plays violin and I play piano). We fancy we're trying to learn go, but I may simply lack the patience. We juggle together arm in arm. He does the dishes and I stare in amazement that this pirate geneticist hacker boy is here with me, today, tomorrow, and for as long as we have life and breath. I have loved him since I have known him, and it only gets better. I've wanted to say these things for so long. Mmm. That's rather a relief. Expect more frequent updates from here!
