I was supposed to leave today on a dolphin-watching for research trip. I am going with Nelly and Tom from OCEP (see an older entry) and two other New College students. We are taking the R/V Bellows from St. Petersburg up to the Florida Midlands (a shallow, reef-like area around the "armpit" of Florida (my dad's description)).

We were going to leave this afternoon and get back Saturday. I got all totally and completely ready. Packed and psychologically prepared. I saw the people I most wanted to see and spent some quality time with them. I got plenty of rest. I had breakfast. I was on time.

There was a bit of storminess though, and when we got to the lab and were all assembled there, the captain and Tom finally made the decision not to take the 80' boat out in the 9' seas, as that makes it hard to do things like spot dolphins (or convince unpaid volunteers to keep coming?).

So I am instead leaving rather early tomorrow morning. I am quite excited. I will still be back Saturday morning, if not earlier (due to weather).

This past weekend was delightful. Friday night I filmed the Vagina Monologues. Then I was Janet in the Absent Friends' production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which if I do say so myself, was smashing. Best audiance ever. Best virgin sacrifice ever. Good costumes, good props, adequate lighting. Great filming, courtesy of Pairodox. Good call lines. Sizzling sex scenes. Scintillating lips (four of them!). It was the best advertised, best attended, best planned. Hobobobq, our energetic PR monkey, deserves a large share of credit for that part. Grand cast. Charspider showed up at the last minute and did a very solid Rocky. Mmm. It was good.

It was also exhausting. Everyone was tired when it let out. Wheel, Charspider and I headed straight home to bed. So did Pairodox and Oregano. I don't think we were the only ones. It was a shame to miss the cast party / birthday party though.

Saturday night was Valentine's PCP. Yay! It was a really fun party. Several fun costumes and lots of wandering around. Lots of rainbows in the decorations. The weird theme ("A Care Bear Affair") played out surprisingly well. Actionhero even made a cameo appearance. Good times.

Yesterday while Wheel got his Shadowrun group together to play, I went out with Pairodox and Oregano, and that's always a good thing. Then we all converged on my house to watch the new Simpsons episodes (#300 and #301). I got all packed and ready to go.

It may sound like I'm not working on my thesis much, but I am! Really.
