06 May 2002 - 21:37 Saw many dolphins. Will see many more. Happy. Tired. Need eye exam. "Got used to" new old-prescription glasses, but the fuzziness never went away. If I wear BOTH prescription glasses on top of each other, everything snaps into focus. Know I shouldn't wear both prescription glasses on top of each other, but it's very hard not to, when I know I'm missing stuff. Like when I see a heron grab a blob, and then I put on the second glasses and see that it's a wriggling silvery little fish. Or when Raccoon identifies a "generic" fin as someone distinctive, and then I put on the second glasses and can suddenly see the all-important nicks and notches used for IDing the dolphins. So, yeah, I wore them like that all day. I need an eye exam and two sets of new lenses ASAP. Very sad! Will they let me keep my existing frames and just put the new prescription in them, I hope? On up side, sunglass frames/shape perfect. Total coverage. Practically like wearing goggles. Plus they look cool. Got light sunburn on my cheeks, near my ears. Also inside my ears (not outside, which I carefully sunscreened). Looks like I'm wearing rogue, but put it in the wrong place. Will have to start sunscreening the insides of my ears. Did first playback. Equiptment worked. We worked. The dolphins (FB90 "Killer," her calf, FB54, her calf, and FB11 "Marylee") did not respond (to playback of Killer's sig whistle, from on-file). Oh well. Just a first try. Also saw male dyad 33 and 5. Goals: 9 hours of sleep tonight (7.5 last night); complete breakfast tomorrow morning--granola/milk, an egg (this morning--an apple). Starr is very friendly and nice and sociable. Inquired to Raccoon about Friday, stating simple truth: "Speaking of theses--normally, I wouldn't ask, but my fiance is defending on Friday. Can I have the day off?" She said she'd think about it, which is fair. I am loathe to take day off, especially since we are not going out on Wednesday (so interns can do official intern intro thing, and also meeting or equipt testing or something?), but Wheel will defend a thesis only thrice (one hopes) and I want to be there. Plus, I fully expect him to attend mine next year. OTOH, I told him several times that if he scheduled the bacc after May 1, I might not be able to attend. Do not think he really believed me until today. Wahhhh! It makes me v. sad. I love you, Wheelie! Hedgehog hovers just below 80% correct in Animal Learning project trials. She's very patient. Will finish up this week (better, due soon!). More later.
