08 August 2002 - 20:50 It's so good here. Today we: Slept in late. Had breakfast. Paddled around the lake in the red canoe. Had lunch. Finished off our replay of King's Quest VII ("The Princeless Bride"). Swam in the lake. Practiced righting the canoe from the middle of the lake with Kien and dad. Failed at the above several times, at least when attempted in pairs and triples. The four of us together can get me and Kien (the lightest weight pair) in with everything reasonably dry. Took a long warm shower to wash off the lake slime. Ate dinner. In between I did things like knit and pet Mercy (dog), Oracle (big soft cat), and Seeker (cute sleepy cat). I also got an e-mail from the Princeton Review saying that they're going to publish one of my New College admissions essays in their upcoming (Fall 2003) book of college admissions essays. As soon as I send in the forms, they'll send me a check for $35. Sweet. And in a year, they'll send me a copy of the book. Pretty solid payment for sending an e-mail or two. I hope my parents can stay here (that is, that they remain solidly sound of mind, body, and wallet). It's very pleasant to day dream about always being able to come vacation here, with chickens and an ever-expanding garden, swimming, fishing, canoing, wandering forest and field. It'd be a great place to bring our hypothetical children for summers and for the winter holidays (I want to live someplace subtropical, but not miss out on snow around christmas! nor fireflies in June...). I am utterly content.
