As some of you know, I study many things in my spare time. As attentive readers know, I keep track of my studies on an application that I call the Perfect List. Among other metrics, I give myself a descriptive "level" at each skill. These are from a completely subjective (AI complete) 26-point scale taken from Accursed Lands.

These are my level changes for 2004, with hours/number of levels in parentheses. That latter measure suggests something about either the difficulty of mastering a particular skill, the sheer amount of material there is to master, or my efficiency at studying/practicing that thing, or some combination thereof, in the context of my view of the level scale. Hours are rounded, and are taken very conservatively.

• CSS: proficient → skilled (7/2)
• PHP: beginner → above average (82/5)
• linux: beginner → poor (26/1)
• genetics: beginner → not very good (39/2)
• electronics: novice → beginner (21/1)
• hula hooping: tyro → novice (2/1)
• MySQL: tyro → good (19/11)
• Frisbee: tyro → beginner (9/2)
• origami: tyro → novice (19/1)
• HAM radio: tyro → novice (9/1)
• cooking: tyro → novice (10/1)
• gingerbread building: tyro → beginner (5/2)
• apache: tyro → beginner (3/2)
